Education and Workforce Development Committee

The purpose of this committee is to drive Tennessee’s future economic success by ensuring a globally competitive workforce.  We do this by identifying and supporting outcome-based K-12 and adult education programs and policy positions that result in Tennesseans thriving in a globally competitive workforce. Our support is focused on awareness and advocacy and our success is measured in the short term by program and policy implementation and in the long term by recognition of Tennessee as the premiere state for business investment.

Environment and Energy Committee

The Chamber is the only business group in the state that focuses on environmental and energy issues in both the legislative and regulatory areas. The committee and its subcommittees work with state and federal regulators to impact regulations prior to the adoption of new or revised rules or program guidance. The committee files formal comments on behalf of the business and industry community to proposed regulations and provides formal testimony.

Environment and Energy Committee: Chemical Industry Council

This council serves to define policy and resource needs to support the unique requirements of Tennessee’s chemical industry – the 10th largest in the nation – which extend beyond just environmental concerns.

This council and the Tennessee Chamber also serve as the Tennessee state affiliate of the American Chemical Council.

Human Resources Committee

All employment law issues come through this committee, including health care costs, mandated benefits, workers’ compensation and unemployment compensation. This committee provides guidance to the Tennessee Chamber’s leadership and staff in the development and implementation of human resource programs and services as well as identifying and making recommendations on proposed government policies and legislation. This committee also seeks to make available the most innovative human resource processes and ideas through publications, seminars, training programs, and networking.

Manufacturing Advisory Council

This committee safeguards the future of manufacturing in Tennessee by: promoting the value of manufacturing, identifying and recommending legislation to strengthen manufacturing, and providing input to State legislators and Chamber staff on the impact of state and federal policies on the future of manufacturing.

Public Affairs Committee

This committee represents the membership and business community by identifying, monitoring, and developing a legislative package that ensures pro-business legislation and policies. This committee also supports the candidacy of pro-business candidates through its commitment to growing and maintaining a strong Political Action Committee.

Tax Committee

This standing committee relates tax issues and reviews legislation for position considerations by the Chamber Board of Directors. This committee meets with the Tennessee Department of Revenue, as needed, to discuss tax policies affecting businesses, manufacturers, and property owners. Membership is open to members who are willing to contribute experience in reviewing legislation and tax policies.
