Statement on the Proposed Metro Council Resolution Regarding Music City Loop
As the Nashville Metro Council considers a resolution opposing the Music City Loop and effectively condemning The Boring Company and its leadership, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry encourages council members to vote against the resolution, or at a minimum, defer this vote so that the relevant departments of the Metropolitan Government, the O’Connell Administration, and willing members of the Council can continue to have objective and open dialogue with the company and other stakeholders. This project has both local and regional significance and represents a major financial commitment and an important step towards addressing our transportation challenges. We are concerned that this resolution sends a message not only to The Boring Company but also to other businesses that could ultimately discourage investment and innovation in our state.
We believe it is critical that Nashville and the state as a whole continue to explore varied approaches to addressing our transportation and infrastructure needs. A privately funded option such as this presents an opportunity to accelerate connectivity and ease congestion, while, as the Council desires, also maintaining clear standards for safety, engineering integrity, environmental review, and operational transparency.
In one of the country’s fastest-growing regions that is competing fiercely for talent, investment, and quality jobs, mobility is a core economic driver. Strategic infrastructure investments and innovative partnerships are essential to sustaining long-term growth and regional competitiveness.
The business community supports a thorough, fact-based evaluation process grounded in performance, accountability, and return on investment. Nashville’s continued success depends on disciplined analysis, openness to innovation, and a commitment to building the infrastructure necessary for the region’s future.
